8 Tracks: For the games that we play with Ripperton

Music

Earlier this month we were promised a new album from ESP Institute, an intriguing follow up to a record which had been well received upon first delivery.

It was only last year that Ripperton released "Sight Seeing" – an all ambient affair on the record label run by Lovefingers. It was a departure from the producers previous club focussed material. However, it offered him an opportunity to showcase the musicality and depth behind some of his work, allowing him a chance to dance between the spaces in between.

Now a follow up is in the works and will be released imminently, it's titled "Contrails" and is forthcoming.

Ripperton is a singular and unique producer, originating from Switzerland his sound often playfully weaves its way between deep rooted house and delicate melancholy. It's often enchanting yet distant and serene.

We invited him to guide us through an abstract concept, chosen by himself. These are the games that we play…

  • Direct Manipulation User Interface

God knows I’m not one of those people who believes in conspiracy, but that there are definitely a few that are pretty obvious.

  • To Receive You Must Give

I was told that when I was 10. It was not an easy time for me, it’s probably the best advice I ever received.

Please wait 13 seconds before you buy something impulsively.

  • Human Pattern

What better way to probe the human soul than a good chess game?

  • Travel Shapes Youth

If I were you, I’d use Tim Hecker as a guide for that.

  • Tipping Point

Few years ago Martyn encouraged me to read this book. If I understand correctly, the human brain doesn’t understand large numbers. On the other hand, the human being manages the piano very well.

  • Life After Death

It’s very funny to realise that humans can’t admit that the blue planet will survive very well without them.
