8 Tracks: 2018 Heaters with Drone

Following recent appearances on Hear Other Sounds and Sector 7 (as well as a self-released USB beat tape), Drone is landing on Coyote Records later this month with the four-track Light Speed EP, which has already been receiving support from the likes of Kahn & Neek. Out 30th November, it fuses the icy, widescreen grime sound of label contemporaries like Last Japan and Silk Road Assassins with the hefty bass weight of Bristol soundsystem culture.

Drone has put together this excellent set of selections which showcase some of the most exciting bass music coming out of the UK right now. From Commodo to Impey, get stuck in below.

O$Vmv$M - Shook

I’ve been listening to a lot of O$VMV$M stuff recently. The way they manipulate samples and create atmosphere within their tracks resonates with me highly. ‘Shook’ is a personal favourite taken from their most recent LP which dropped on Idle Hands earlier this year, the whole project is incredible.

  • Lemzly Dale - What We Do (Feat. Merky Ace)

    The instrumental to this track ‘Catty’ has been a staple in my sets for a while. Merky’s flow compliments the beat perfectly once again proving why he’s the best grime MC out there.

  • Sp:Mc - R1

    Picked up by Vivek and released on System, ‘R1’ has to be one of my favourite instrumentals of the year.

  • Commodo - Roxy

    Absolute monster of a tune from Commodo. The guitar samples in the second half are next level.

  • Slowthai - North Nights

    Slowthai has been one of the most exciting UK artists to watch this year, releasing a string of singles and ‘North Nights’ is a personal favourite. The visuals are also on point as always.

  • Bengal Sound - Black Water

    ‘Black Water’ is a track taken from Bengal’s self released tape ‘Culture Clash’ which dropped earlier this year. Bengal Sound is fast becoming one of my favourite producers, watch out for him next year.

  • Impey - The Deluge

    Released on his new imprint Ghost Notes, ‘The Deluge’ is a short snippet showing just how much of a versatile and forward thinking producer Impey is. The layers to this track are incredible.

  • Boofy - Perfunktion

    Last but by no means least is Boofy with a track taken from his new EP on Tectonic. Percussion game on a milli!
