Transition Gallery To Reveal Artist Depictions Of Loneliness

An exhibition into artist's responses of loneliness and cultural representations of solitude, will head to the Transitions Gallery famous for its innovative exhibitions, from the 2st September – 1st October. Over five artists including Juno Calypso, Hannah Ford, Kirsty Buchanan, Nicola Frimpong and Molly Palmer alongside contextualising objects and ephemera from curator Sarah’s research into the theme.

The concept of solitude has long fascinated artists over the decades, with its connotations to madness and perversity or to be used as a tool for creative genius, the creative community thrives of these horror- filled depictions. Contrastingly the fear of isolation has filled up mainstream media, with films such as Bridget Jones (2001) and The Shining (1980), highlights to a growing movement of monophobia resulting in a need for constant connectivity. 

The exhibition will also hold film screenings such as Repulsion (1965) and Paris, Texas (1984), following by guest speakers such as Film Researcher, Mary Wild, will help examine the topic even further. 

The exhibition will preview on the 1st September 2016.
