We Are The Sunset

We Are The Sunset is London’s new Sunday Balearic get-together where a pool of like-minded DJs have already signed up to spin a mix of blissed-out psychedelia/Balearic/leftfield and oddball disco at E5’s newest pub The Star by Hackney Downs. 23 June sees guest DJs Leo Elstob/Zero & Nathan Gregory Wilkins joining resident Andy Taylor for the first in a series of ‘gatherings’ as the sun sets on the terrace overlooking the Downs.

After wanting to get a new Balearic session going in London for some time, resident DJ & promoter, Andy Taylor asked many of his favourite and highly regarded DJ pals if they’d be interested in getting involved with his new Sunday gathering ‘We Are The Sunset’. Encouraged by their positive response he set about putting the wheels in motion by finding the perfect venue for his day into night soiree. With it’s outdoor terrace (facing the sun) and boasting a solid Funktion 1 sound system, recently opened Star by Hackney Downs fits the bill perfectly. Taking influences from early Ibiza experiences Andy’s aim is to soundtrack your end of the week get-together with a mix of blissed-out psychedelia / Balearic / leftfield and oddball disco giving plenty of scope for the guests to drop an eclectic mix as the sun drops over the Downs.

Leo Elston is probably best known for his remixes of global acts like Madonna, Florence & The Machine, Lana Del Rey, to name but a few. But prior to this he’s spent many years on the underground house scene, running parties, record labels, DJing, and learning the ropes in the studio. Rewind back 20 or so years and Leo was there right at the birth of House and Techno… in 86-87 spending his dinner money on the latest imports from Chicago and Detroit and listening to the first pirate radio shows spawning this brand new sound. Two years later, the rest of the country had caught up, Acid House had kicked in, and Leo found himself in Ibiza right in the thick of it all.

The first ‘We Are The Sunset’ is on Sunday 23rd June from 5 till 11pm, just 2 days after this year’s summer solstice so things are already lined up for a great get-together. It’s in the stars after all!
