'The Lady of the House' is a new book charting the stories of the women who have contributed, and continue to contribute, to the house music scene.
Created by Laila McKenzie and Ian ‘Snowy’ Snowball, the book is compiled of imagery and interviews with DJs, producers, promoters and management, from those who were there at the beginning to those who are keeping the scene alive today. Interviews include Candi Staton, Barbara Tucker, Ellen Allien, Nicky Trax, Ultra Nate, Jocelyn Brown, DJ Paulette, Anne Savage and many more.
The aim of this project is to raise the £25,000 cost of printing and distribution of the book, funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Information on the various pledging options are available on the kickstarter page.
Authors Laila & Snowy dedicated their time free of charge for the past 8+ months to bring this project to life. They will donate £1 from the sale of every book to the Night Time Industries Association’s (NTIA) Savenightlife CIC. Specifically, it will be used to ensure access to equal rights and protection for all women and all who identify as women, within the industry remains high on the agenda.
