John Waters’ Lost Classic ‘Multiple Maniacs’ Restored And Released

Art & Culture

Director John Waters is known as the 'King Of Bad Taste', renowned for Seventies films starring Divine such as 'Pink Flamingos', 'Female Trouble' and 'Desperate Living' and later for his more mainstream hits such as 'Hairspray', 'Serial Mom' and 'Cry Baby' featuring Johnny Depp. Now his second feature, 'Multiple Maniacs' is getting a cinema and Blu Ray release, after being unavailable for decades. Gloriously grotesque and replete with all manner of depravity, it features one of cinema’s most memorably blasphemous moments. Made on a shoestring budget, it makes a mockery of the peace-and-love ethos of its era and features Divine as well as his regular cast, the Dreamlanders. The restoration of this full, uncut version has never been seen on UK screens before.

Multiple Maniacs is in cinemas 17th February 2017. It is released on Blu Ray on 20th March 2017 from The Criterion Collection.
