At Home With… Gabe Gurnsey Of Factory Floor

Art & Culture

The concept which lies behind this feature series is simple by nature and design. We ask very kindly, if we might be able to step inside the home's and inner workings of one of our favourite artists or musicians. This is no simple feat, one's home is a personal space of self reflection, ideas and inner most reflection. Hence we thank and send our love to those whom wish to take part, previously we have featured Chloe from C.A.R., now we invite Gabe Gurnsey of Factory Floor to show us his world…

Factory Floor recently released a new album titled '25 25' through DFA Records which was met with much critical acclaim. They have a new single titled 'Wave' which is accompanied by a Jlin Remix and can be found below…

Share with us your favourite recipe. What is the go to meal, or perfect romantic fine-dining experience for yourselves? How did this recipe come about and any tips for our readers?

Morocan Tagine with Couscous yeah? Ok, stick a record on (anything featured on a Jamie Oliver show), throw some lamb, onions, cumin, turmeric, salt , paprika  and honey into a frying pan. Fry it up then throw it in a tagine pot and into the oven for 35 minutes. Serve with couscous. You can add dried fruit but I don’t.

Tip for the readers :forget all the above and stack 3 x Potato waffles on top of each other and layer with cheddar cheese and butter.

What’s your favourite room in your home and why?

I love the living room / kitchen which Im slowly turning into a jungle. Its got three huge windows which overlook the M56 motorway and Manchester skies. Definitely an inspiring landscape when you’re writing music.

What’s in your fridge right now? How often do you clean it?

Couple of avocados, Birdseye potato waffles, a half eaten Tiramisu and the rest of the shelves are filled with cheese due to my girlfriends crippling cheese addiction.

How would you describe the decor in your home?

Mancunian 90’s chintz chic.

Are you handy at DIY or do you get someone in?

Yeah I like a bit of DIY. I thank my Dad for teaching me how to fix things.

What do you eat for breakfast?

Chupa Chups Mini Pizza…

Do you have a nutri-bullet? Have you ever used it? If so, any health boosting juices you would recommend?

I don’t own a Nutri-bullet but maybe I should get one . Do they give them to musicians? Nutri-Bullet, send me one.

Who is your neighbour? What do they do? If you’ve not talked to them… maybe now would be a good opportunity to.

There’s no way i’m knocking on my neighbours door. I'm waiting for them to knock on mine to complain about the horrible kick drum vibrations coming through their walls.

Have you ever locked yourself out? What did you do?

Not out of this flat but here’s a story for you ; I was in Leipzig staying at a remote wild boar hunting lodge after a festival and I locked myself out of the room at 1am. The owner was nowhere to be found so I kicked the door in and then did a bit of DIY on it.

Bath or shower?

Bath, hands down.

Has your neighbour ever seen you naked, accidentally or on purpose?

No but if they had I would’ve been tranquillised and sent to Chester Zoo by now.

Do you eat your dinner at the table or on your lap?

In bed with a glass of champagne.

Do you have a local shop or are you a supermarket whore like the rest of us?

I’m a Spar whore.

Is there a piece of art or ornament that holds particularly fond memories for you, from childhood or travels perhaps?

Check out this plaster cast of our hands I got done with my mum when I was 8.

Also, love this screen print my Dad gave me recently. ‘Prison Rainbow’ by Patrick Hughes ‘76 – Had this up in the home when I was growing up…

Animals. We love cats here at R$N, but just love people with pets. Is there a special furry/ feathered/ scaly creature in your life, tell us a little about them?

I’ve been spending a lot of time with my girlfriend's family’s Yorkshire Terrier recently. She’s called Muzzy and she’s amazing. I reckon Muzzy and Vince ( my old English Bulldog who sadly passed away a couple of years back) would’ve gotten on really well. I love dogs and I want to get another soon. Not another Bulldog though. They are a pain in the arse.

What’s the worst state your home has been left in after a party?

I don’t do house parties.

What’s your most annoying habit as a room mate if indeed you do have a room mate?

I don’t have a room mate but I’m probably really irritating to live with.

What’s the worst room-mate you’ve ever had?

When I used to live in Bethnal Green 13 years ago there was this guy called Leon already in the flat who thought it was alright to hoover at 2am. I came down one night to tell him to give it a rest and found him wielding a wallpaper scraper and hoovering the cooker top . Not sure what he’d been cooking.

Is there a view from your window, balcony, front door, terrace? Can you share that with us? Who do you look for coming along the street.

You can. Can you translate the graffiti for me? I look for cool dogs.

Pick 6 dinner party guests from history, real or fictional to invite to your home?

Gene Wilder, Francis Bacon, Daphne Oram, A computer simulation of Adam Curtis from 1983, Clint Eastwood and Michael Jackson.

Do you know the name of your postman?

No idea but he’s a thief.

Where do you listen to music in the home and what’s the set up?

I always listen to music in the bath after working on it in the day. Best place for thinking of edits and ideas. Other peoples music I listen to on my record deck in the living room or in the studio.

What would you change about your home?

I wouldn’t change anything. I love it.

Anything else we’ve missed about your home you’d like to discuss?

Dyson Hoovers aren’t very good. Also if you’d asked me about my nan’s house this would’ve been proper off key.
