Watch Incredible 80’S Footage Of The Women Of No Wave And Post Punk

Art & Culture

We’ve got massive respect for Camille and Constance of the ROSA VERTOV / MAKING WAVES fanzine for putting together some serious visual crate digging.

The duo have recently bought Rosa Vertov online, where they’ve reposted a series of video compilations made up of rare clips of female-fronted 1980s post punk and no wave bands. Drawing on European and American obscurities, with the exception of a few ever-green favourites (The Waitresses, Young Marble Giants) we can safely say we’ve heard of none of these bands, and definitely never seen these videos. What’s more, they are, by and large, excellent, funny, bizarre and supremely dance-able. What’s not to like?

You can watch all four compilations below – if you want to check out the track listings head over to Rosa Vertov – the site is written in French, but Google translate does a sterling job of rendering it into English for the linguistically challenged clods amongst us (guilty as charged…).

If you’re feeling the music on these videos (and really, why wouldn’t you be?) we suggest you check out Rosa Vertov’s extensive series of Gunilla mixtapes for deeper lessons in post punk joy…
