London Spanish Film Festival

 

The festival’s eighth edition includes some of the latest Spanish films, focusing on the Catalan and Basque regions industries. Most of them premieres in the UK, giving you a unique opportunity to see them in London. The screening programme goes from comedies to the deepest dramas, with titles such as “Extraterrestre” (Extraterrestrial), Nacho Vigalondo’s latest film, or “Mientras duermes” (Sleep tight), a creepy dark thriller by Jaume Balagueró. Luis Tosar, the main character of “Mientras duermes”, will be the special feature at the festival. The highly talented Spanish actor will have a special screening with some of his most acclaimed films including “Te doy mis ojos” (Take my eyes) and “Los lunes al sol” (Mondays in the sun). 

 

The event also examines Pedro Almodóvar’s directorial style and what it means to be an Almodóvar actor/actress. A selection of films from the Spanish director will be screened, and introduced by the actors themselves, followed by discussions.

 

This new edition introduces “A treasure from the archives”, a section to re-discover forgotten pieces of the Spanish cinema. It will launch with the screening of “Un, dos, tres, al escondite inglés” by José Luis Borau and Iván Zulueta. The plot of the film -shot in the 60’s- centres on a group of British-pop music fans that decide to boycott the song that represents Spain in a music contest, a parody of Eurovision. 

 

The festival shows the variety and the richness of the Spanish film industry in spite of the bad times the country now finds itself living through. 

 

London Spanish Film Festival runs until 10th of October in traditional venues: Ciné Lumiere, Instituto Cervantes and International House.
