Space Is The Place with Chino

Music

The former Polish capital of culture Krakow is home to an incredible underground electronic music scene, rich with talented DJs, artists, promoters and events. The most prominent in the latter category is Unsound, a week long experimental electronic festival, of which local producer Chino is a resident for. He's been at the forefront of the city's music scene for many years now, most notably through his productions and live performances as well as his party and collective Radar, which he runs with Olivia and Kinzo Chrome.

Sonically his music brings together elements of EBM, acid and techno, with a signature grittiness realised through his love of old drum machines and FM synthesis. Following the release of his new EP The Cave on Warsaw-based label Syntetyk, he takes us through the tracks that signal his place in space…

Endless, blurry gradients and intensive colours mixed with this feeling that only long trekking in the mountains gives you. Experiencing amazing landscapes with noone around. This is how I feel about my place in the space.

Der Zyklus - Ionospheric Delay (Extended Alternate Bonus Version)

Der Zyklus are masters of those amazing choral pads that perfectly illustrate outer space nostalgia.

  • Patricia Kokett - Mmuo Trance

If there is some other life in space (and I believe there is) I imagine their sound as ‘Mmuo Trance’ by Patricia Kokett…

  • W.Komendarek Fragment Utworu Tesknota Zeglarza Z Plyty W.K.Reedycja

There is one Polish musician that has definitely more knowledge about outer space civilisations than any of us. He is named Wladyslaw Komendarek and is a true synth legend. My friend Wiktor Milczarek recently shared with me a track by him entitled “Tesknota Zeglarza” (Longing of a Sailor) which definitely is a slavic reflection of Drexciyan emotions in music.

  • Dj Richard - Crimson Curve

Dj Richard’s Dies Irae Xerox LP was one of my favourites last year. “Crimson Curve” is the track that I’d listen repeatedly if I was being taken.

  • Psyche - Neurotic Behavior

Neurotic Behaviour by Psyche is a brilliant soundtrack for the moment that you recognise there is no way back from space to planet Earth anymore.
