Thomas Von Party & Dreems: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

Multi Culti is full of life, an elaborate project which has sky rocketed, blossoming with musical heritage and a new wave of artists. Red Axes, Clarian, Auntie Flo, Nicola Cruz, Manfredas and many more have all appeared on the imprint.

Thomas von Party and Dreems first founded the record label back in 2013, unaware of the course it might take. The two are both independent producers and dj's in their own right, however, together they offer something else entirely.

We are delighted to be able to welcome the pair to contribute to our Ransom Note mix series, a duo who need very little introduction. Listen and download below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

We are Multi Culti. a family with two dads: Thomas Von Party, Canadian club-impresario, former Turbo A&Rsman & Dreems, Australian journeyman DJ, producer and long distance runner.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

In Berlin, at our new office / studio / apartment / headquarters.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

On a burning raft made of palo santo, adrift on the open seas, with a DMT-IV for the psychonauts.

What should we be wearing?

Algae shoes (from Vivo Barefoot), a new Multi Culti Multiply Yo Mind TEE, a parka from YEVU, shorts from Double Rainbouu, with a Multi Culti sarong wrapped around your head.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

8 Denon-tray style CDJs, one of those Beringer rotaries. It could be any format, as long as there is enough headroom.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Maybe the Simple Symmetry remix of Nicola Cruz. MAYBE.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Jeno – Bang the Drum. You can feel the E dripping out of it.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Aphex Twin, just so we could hang.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

TVP: I used to sneak in and use my bros 1200s. DREEMS: an Omnitronic mixer and decks. Now we have it all.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The track you start on.

Like the song says: "Once you’re in love, you know you’re in love, no matter what you try to do-ooo. You might as well resign yourself, to what you’re goin thruu-ooo”

What were the first and last records you bought?

TVP: first: Adam Ant – Stand and Deliver. last: Soft Hair – Soft Hair
Dreems: first: Cypress Hill, last: Ninosindigo – Voodoowave

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A Nag champa flavoured Haribo.

If it was an animal what would it be?

An Andean Titi monkey

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Bohemian Rhapsody

Upcoming in the world of…

Dreems is one half of Die Orangen and they have an album coming out this month. On Multi Culti we have 12s coming up from Nicola Cruz. Mytron & Ofofo, Manfredas, a collab ep with our friends from Power Station, a new Dreems album, and a new compilation series called TRANCELATIONS.

Anything else we need to discuss?

YEAH… we just set up a pop-up shop in Berlin, featuring some amazing clothing and artwork from amazing people around the world. We also host a lot of live streaming sets there, and have our studio… it feels great to have gone ‘brick & mortar’ and be able to share the space with our crew and the world. We’ll be launching our own web-store soon, but for now you can grab some of our TEES and ROLLING PAPERS off our bandcamp page HERE
