Sandrino: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

What brings people together? Why do we make friends, form relationships and associate ourselves with one another? For love? Common interest? Gain?

In the case of Frankey & Sandrino what brought them together was a sense of musical correlation, an understanding and realisation in something great. Since the duo formed in 2014 they have released an array of expertly crafted EP's on some of the most definitive record labels in electronic music. Mule, Kompakt and Innervisions have all opened doors to the pair and now they find themselves in a pioneering position amidst dance music. We are delighted to be able to welcome Sandrino, one half of the duo, to contribute as part of our Ransom Note mix series.

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

I´m Sandrino, human born in a part of the world known as Romania. Currently I’m based in Berlin. I´m a Dj for more than 20 years now and also I’m part of the project Frankey & Sandrino.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

I recorded this mix at home and I’ve been thinking about it since forever so it makes me super happy that it´s finally manifested now.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

That’s everyones own choice, I would just ask to give it the right attention, Not for myself, but for all the amazing artists who produced every single song i used in this mix!

What should we be wearing?

Try to be naked.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

It depends on the mix and its purpose if you ask me. In this case the mix is my personal expression and reflects my feelings and current mood, hence why I think my home was the perfect place to record it.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Hard to say, every single song in the mix belongs to my faves and touches me in its very own way!

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

This one… but I must say, that I´m saying this after every mix I record. I always try to find the perfect expression, but i´m only coming closer.
and as soon as i let it go the quest starts from the beginning.  Hopefully i´ll never reach the perfection as it would be all over then 😉

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Difficult question, maybe with Sasha from the 90´s but with the sound of tomorrow…

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I started with 2 Technics 1210 and a Gemini mixer in the early 90´s. Now i have a Technics 1210, 2 XDJ 1000 and a Rane mp2016 + xp2016.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both!

What were the first and last records you bought?

I can´t remember the first one to be honest, but one of the last ones was a record by Michelle Delhay, and she sings all the great Parisian chansons! I love old music…

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Petit Gateau!

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

There are many, not every record needs to be mixed but definitely listened 😉

Upcoming in the world of…
