Fantastic Twins: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

What a week it has been, no, not that election nonsense….

Hippie Dance have taken over Ransom Note this week and what a bloody good job they have made of it as well. We've had interviews, features, stories and a bucket load of fun.

To round off what has been a pretty special one we are delighted to welcome Fantastic Twins to the series, who spoke with Superpitcher & Rebolledo earlier in the week HERE

This one is pretty special, have a listen and read the q&a below:

Please introduce yourself – who are you, where are you and what are you?

I am Fantastic Twins. Me and myselves are sitting somewhere in a city full of techno ninjas called Berlin. No one really knows who I am and I haven’t quite figured out myself.

What does your music sound like?

Like nothing you’ve heard before, I hope.

Where was the mix recorded?

In Ibiza, in front of 10,000 people throwing mojitos at me. No, just at home, in my studio.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

On a flying carpet, with a bottle of wine.

What should we be wearing?

Anything but flip-flops. A cape maybe.

Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us? (an image from the old internet is acceptable)

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location, system, format?

I don’t have a dream setting. As long as I have imagination and some decent speakers or good headphones, that’s all I need really.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

The ridiculous amount of music being released nowadays makes the word “current” hard to define. Do we mean music we like for 1 month until it’s not cool anymore? If so, I don’t have “current favourites”. In fact, these days I tend to avoid anything that could be labelled as “a current favourite”. I don’t do a lot of mixes so when I do one, it’s 100% made of music I really love. No “disposable” music. For example, the first track I played – from Iona Fortune’s LP that just came out on Optimo Music – is wonderful (and so is the entire album) and I know it’s music I will always enjoy and go back to.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

The Optimo mix CD number 5 called (Why nobody comes) Back to mine.

What's the most important piece of equipment you own?

I love my Moog Voyager. And the Roland Space Echo RE-501. Lately I bought a delay unit from OTO Machines, made in France, like me. I absolutely love it.

Why did the label 'Hippie Dance' come into existence?

It was Superpitcher and Rebolledo’s idea and project all the way. Initially, they created the label only to release their own music as Pachanga Boys. When they made their album “We Are Really Sorry”, they asked me to record some interludes and that’s how the Twins were born. After that, I made my first own EP as The Twins which was released in 2013. Then King So So blessed us with a visit from the Sky. And since the boys were regularly sent music from close friends, they decided to create the sister label You And Your Hippie Friends. Now they also both release their solo albums and I will release a second EP in September. It’s all been growing organically, like most independent record labels really.

What is it like being 'a twin'. Is it really that fantastic?

It has to be fantastic otherwise there’s no reason for a twin to be. On days where the twins are not fantastic enough they just vanish.

What were the first and last records you bought?

It’s gonna sound pedantic but it was Songs From Liquid Days from Philip Glass. I used to do contemporary dance and that was the music my teacher used to play. I was quite obsessed with it so I asked my dad to buy me the CD so I could also listen to it at home. I believe the last record I bought is Horse Follows Darkness by Delia Gonzalez.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Mushrooms?

If it was an animal what would it be?

A cat. If my mix manages to be a cat, I’d like to know how it did cause i’d love to be one myself.

Upcoming in the world of…

My new EP on Hippie Dance and an album on Optimo Music. Both releases in September 2017. A few vocal featurings for other artists too, next one is for Italian duo Marvin & Guy.

Anything else we need to discuss?

Brexit? UK election? #goodluck #fingerscrossed
