Ben Fester: The Ransom Note Mix

Music

Sydney is beginning to change its public perception. For many years there was reports of a club scene in decline and a jaded culture. However, in recent years there has been a significant wave of new musicians, producers, parties and labels to emerge from the land down under. Ben Fester is perhaps one of the pioneers of this new wave of talented up and comers. As the boss of the Heavenly party series and a seriously talented disc jockey he has begun to stretch his wings as he continues to make waves. From house to disco and all in between he is one of the country's most significant new talents.

Listen and read the interview below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

My name is Ben and i live in Sydney, Oz. I co run a party here called Heavenly with mates Adrian E & Cop Envy and do a bit of deejing around.

What does your music sound like?

Where was the mix recorded?

In the sunroom off my bedroom that is conveniently the size of an Ikea expedit (RIP)

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Your happy place…but i don’t wanna tell you what to do, do you.

What should we be wearing?

What ever you feel comfortable in …but i don’t wanna tell you what to do, do you

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

In good company.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

The one thats like “skibada bap, scoot scoot squeep” and has drums.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

I don’t like to play favourites.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I went halves with my brother in some American Audio CDJ’s and a mixer, they were sketchy has heck! I have a pair of 1210’s, one CDJ and a haunted 3 channel DJM 800 (if you listen closely you can hear the ghosts (spoooky)

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

A good sandwich needs good bread and good filling. Having one without the other is just not a  good sandwich

What were the first and last records you bought?

Can’t really remember the first but i think it was something to do with Prince. The last record i bought was the Antinote – 5 years of loving notes comp!

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

01000001 00100000 01001101 01101001 01111000.

If it was an animal what would it be?

That lizard that runs from the snakes in that David Attenborough thing.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Mission accepted

Upcoming in the world of…

I’m coming over on a bit of business//pleasure type holiday for a couple of months towards the end of August to visit UK and travelling a bit around Europe. Will be playing some songs in places with friends but more news on that soon! Apart from that, got some music from some friends that will be put out into the world soon and then some more Heavenly dances through summer!

Anything else we need to discuss?

Don’t think so, just thanks and respect!
