Acid Brothers: The Wednesday Alternative Mix

Music

Who loves acid? We love acid? Well at least we thought we did. Here are two blokes who happen to know more about the wobbly squelch which has enchanted a nation for decades than anyone else. This weekend the pair will appear on the main stage at Moondance Festival: a celebration of all things rave in Queen Elizabeth Park in London. They will feature as part of an extine line up which feature an array of artists whom include the likes of Todd Terry, A Guy Called Gerald, Altern8 and many more. Ahead of this celebration of dance we decided to go all out nineties and asked the notorious Acid Brothers to record us a mix which reflects what they do best… ACID. The result of this request may be found below as will a link to more information about Moondance's rave extravaganza…

Please introduce yourself…Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Hi we are Stuart J (AB1) and Matt Emulsion (AB2) and we are The Acid Brothers, at the moment we are in the man cave going through some tunes and having a good old chin wag about music and stuff, We are a duo that have known each other most of our lives and we have been djing together since we were around 12 years old, we are real dance music lovers and a bit bonkers but nice chaps.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)

It's hard to say what our music sounds like, we have a lot of influences and we play a lot of new House sets as well as old ones, I guess we would just say real House music with a groove and the odd strange noise with some funk, hip hop and nice baselines. Both of us can actually draw a bit, we can't be bothered to draw anything now but here's a image from the "tinternet" of what we think our music sounds like.

How do you feel about playing Moondance this weekend?

We are very excited about playing, every Moondance event is amazing but this one is extra special, there are so many legends there, we have goosebumps already, it's always an honour to play.

Where was the mix recorded?

This mix was recorded at Stu's man cave

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

In a warehouse or big tent.

What should we be wearing?

Adidas superstars, any kind of printed music t-shirt or Star Wars t-shirt and jeans, also a Eric B & Rakim cap.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

On a beach in Ibiza or a warehouse in New York on a Void or Function one sound system using all formats.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

808 State – In your face Its always been one of our favourites.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Renaissance the mix collection – Sasha and John Digweed, these guys still rock today, fantastic DJs.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

It's hard to choose just one but both of us would have loved to have played with Larry Levan, and Frankie Knuckles, we could have learnt so much for them and those guys were at the forefront of Disco and House, unfortunately both of these guys are no longer with us so if it was living DJs it would have to be Carl Cox and Kerri Chandler, both different styles but 2 incredibly technical DJs with so much musical knowledge and both are not afraid of doing something out of the box.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Memorex turntables and realistic mixer, now it's Pioneer CDJ's, Technics, Traktor Scratch and Traktor S2

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both are important but we would say the Track you end on because it's the tune people remember.

What were the first and last records you bought?

((Stu) My first record I ever bought was Lovebug Starski –  Amityville (the house on the hill) and my last was Weiss – sunshine (Matt) The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff was my first and my last record was the JR from Dallas album – World House Experience, we both love Old Sool Hip Hop.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Super sour jaw breakers (Old Skool) or Haribo Tangfastics, we like food.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A dingo, we have no idea why but it would haha, or maybe an otter.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

(Stu) The Pet shop boys – So Hard (KLF vs The Pet Shop Boys) (Matt) Some brass band stuff or some records my mum and dad have given me, there's some random stuff in my collection.

Upcoming in the world of…

We are really excited about our up and coming stuff, there's some new tracks coming from us, Moondance 4 Life, Gigs in London, Brighton, Austria and Germany (we love Austria), and the odd Kid and Play dance move.

Anything else we need to discuss?

Lots of gigs coming up, Trainers and Star Wars, many thanks to all that support us and love music, it really means the world to us PEACE
