Influences: Marcos Cabral

Music

There are few as accomplished as the American producer. Since 2003 Marcos Cabral has released some of the most forward thinking, dynamic sounds in electronic music on some of the most infamous labels. Having released two albums on L.I.E.S. as well as a number of EP's on Mule, Creme Organization and A Harmless Deed he has helped pioneer the way for a number of musicians who became tired of the constraints of genre and style within electronic music. He features on a forthcoming EP as Dimensions prepare to kickstart life as a record label. We caught up with him to talk influences…

"I could carry on about Chicago, New York, and New Jersey dance music in general. There is an endless amount of American dance music that has influenced me. I'll try to narrow it down to some that are so good, they almost make me cry"

Underground Resistance - The Final Frontier [Hd]

My first memory of hearing this was at an outdoor rave with green lazers being projected across the tops of trees. It still feels as heavy today as it ever has. I think it was Frankie Bones playing it. I would later go on to work for Frankie and his brother Adam (X) at the Sonic Groove record shop.

  • Raze - Break For Love

Bought this when it was released…while in High School. Early on in my studio days, I would try to copy this track over and over, always getting it wrong. Also…It was played at my wedding!

  • Armando-100% Of Dissin' You

I’m always a fan of unhinged dance music. Whether it be drum and bass, electro, techno, or in this case Chicago House. It’s hard to hear this at a loud club and not move your body.

  • Mr Fingers - Can You Feel It

Not much to say about this one, it’s no secret. Jazzy raw vibe from house hero Larry Heard.

  • Bam Bam, Where's Your Child? - 1988

Big bad menacing acid line…makes you feel lost.

  • The Mole People (Armand Van Helden) - Break Night - [Strictly Rhythm 12357 - A-Side]

I’m not sure where Armand Van Helden’s head is at now, but in a better world, he would just return to this state…and stay there.

  • Ron Trent - Pop, Dip And Spin

Once every few years, I rediscover how much I love Ron Trent’s music…this one, and some of the tracks he made with Chez Damier.

  • Workin' Happily - Feel It (Cajmere Underground Goodie Dub) 1993

I once had Cajmere DJ at my house party in the mid 90’s – I remember him wearing Versace print spandex pants and drinking a case of beer – He destroyed it!
