INFLUENCES: LAWRENCE

The Dial and Smallville founder selects.

There are unsung heroes within the underground, those who slip by without the regard they perhaps deserve. Sometimes this is by their own choice, whilst in many cases it is simply due to blissful ignorance. Lawrence is arguably one of the most influential figures in electronic music at present and has been for some time. However, if you were to ask a relative newcomer as to his role then they may not in fact know how much he has touched.

As the founder of both DIAL Records and Smallville he has been responsible for releasing music by some of the most groundbreaking artists in dance music. His own musical career has seen him release prominently on Mule musiq, Ladomat 2000, Kompakt and more. His sound is far reaching and draw upon his experiences which have seen him based somewhere between Hamburg and Tokyo.

This month will see him play in London at Five Miles on the 16th of September, we invite him to select some of the most influential pieces of music from his own lineage.

MIDORI TAKADA - TROMPE L'OEIL (REEL-2-REEL TO DIGITAL CONVERSION)

No other re-release made me happier than “Through The Looking Glass” by the percussionist and composer Midori Takada. I’m so glad to have this album next to other “morning - tea - records” such as Charlemagne Palestine, Delia Derbyshire and Micachu.
