Influences: Geena

Music

Antinote has been one of the most exciting record labels to move through the ranks in recent years. However, one of its most respectable qualities is the time which it invests into its artists. Geena is one of the artists who might be said to have benefitted the most from the guidance of the record label. His recent EP was his fifth to come from the French crew and it may well be his strongest to date yet. Titled 'Peace Love Earth' he seems to know what's important too, boy do we need such a message after the year that we've had.

We caught up with Geena to talk musical influences…

Ronal Rubinel-San Pawol

Crushed rhythms meets fm synthesis meets zouk sans pawol. Last 20 seconds
of the track are very epic and give you the power to play that song one more time.

  • Paul Hardcastle - Fly By Night

I’m never disappointed by Hardcastle. This smooth mix made of funk
energy and spatial feelings is what i’m looking for when i wake up on
saturday morning and i put a record on my turntable.

  • Linval Thompson - Thompson In Dub

I’m very into those dry dub tracks. I’m very fascinated by the sound
processing on drums. I got familiar gradually with reverb, echo or
spacexpander. It’s the reason why i started to listen to dub music.

  • Interiors / Hot Beach

I still don’t know if this track is not a little too much emo / epic /
embarassing but i like a lot those pure and naive feelings associated
with ambient music. Hosono is credited as producer of the record
excepted on this track. Glory to Daisuke Hinata.

  • White Buffalo: Untitled (White Buffalo 003 Side B)

Tech House is a dirty word these days but things have not always been
like this. Guys like bjorn torske (ismistik) or this mysterious white
buffalo have combined the dreamy side of techno with an incredible
sense of groove. I can listen to this track over and over again.

  • Slam Mode: Cancion De Amor

Deep House is all about majestic keys, submarine pads & pumping
basslines. I don’t need to pile more on.

  • D-Ribeiro - Down You Will Get (Am Mix By Dj Sotofett)

Sotofett is the man. It’s really, really hard to keep on track when
you switch from house to dub or whatever from one record to antoher.
I’ve big respect for hit makers cause making tracks everybody can
agree on is maybe the hardest thing. But Sotofett will go down as one
of the great musical figures (and remixer) of our time, definitely
