GENIUS OF TIME – JUNO JAM EP (RUNNING BACK)

Alexander Berg and Nils Krogh’s Genius of Time production outfit is a very strong team in my humble opinion. They always seem to hit it right on the money with their expertly put together, always interesting, consistently funky house productions for labels including Clone Royal Oak and Aniara. Now they’ve teamed up with personal favourite of mine Running Back and the results are excellent.

The EP kicks off with “Juno Jam” (no prizes for guessing their synth of choice for this one) and it’s a wonderful excursion into plinks and plonks and sweeps and chords. It’s got a dead funky riff that will definitely be more than effective on many a dancefloor. Following this is “Tom Jam” which is a deeper, more percussive number. Finally “Djungle Jam” is the deepest of the lot. High quality on all counts.

SCIENTIFIC DREAMZ OF U – SPATIAL PHASE INVERSION EP (BOKHARI)

I picked up on Bokhari a few releases back and they’ve fast become one of my favourite labels. They focus on quality, deep, analogue leaning house music but their sonic pallet is by no means narrow and this next EP set to drop early June proves this very nicely.

This is SDOU’s second release so far (the first being on Tabernacle Records) and it sees him in fine form. The EP opens with the title track which is a lovely, deep, spacy house jam. Following on from this SDOU takes the tempo down quite considerably with the final two tracks. “Mystic Revelation of Science” is a deliciously eerie, plodding electronic number that chugs along at around 100bpm. Think dopplereffect doing an 80’s sci fi soundtrack on a fuck load of those lovely yellow squidgy Temazpams you used to be able to get. Finally the Black Merlin remix of the aforementioned takes things more overtly 80s, into almost John Carpenter territory. Lovely lovely lovely.

LO SHEA – ADVERSE CAMBER EP (PHONICA WHITE)

Lo Shea teams up with Phonica White for a 4 tracker of raw, atmospheric techno with groove. The Sheffield native seems to be picking up a real head of steam of late and this 12” is excellent proof of this! Gritty, wonky, dancefloor goodness.  Highly recommended.

MARQUIS HAWKES – OUTTA THIS HOOD (CLONE JACK FOR DAZE)

Raw, jackin, booty shakin tackle from Marquis Hawkes on Clone’s Jack For Daze offshoot. This is one takes no prisoners.
