Techno is alive and well in the UK, at least according to JoeFarr. The formerly Bristol based producer (now Wales) has been flying the flag damn high for techno across Britain with his contribution to both local and international labels. With releases on the likes of Turbo, Power Vacuum Leisure System and Bloc he has become one of our leading connoisseurs in the harder fringes of dance music. This year saw him launch his own record label, User Experience. He calls the shots, picks the releases and sets the pace which he describes as follows…

"My experience of the music industry has been amazing in some respects and a bit strange and isolating in others, so I thought I'd take that isolation one step further and move to Wales, build a studio in a container with no windows and do everything myself, well, apart from the distribution and the artwork, I'm not that stupid".

We caught up with him as he cites eight heavy hitting cuts from the UK.

He does do it on purpose, but not for the sake of it. A mindfuck but quite a mild one for Metrist.. DJ’s, if your crowd are looking a bit sleepy or bored of what you’re offering, rack up a few of his tracks, maybe not in a row though, that would be unfair.
Bruce - Post Rave Wrestle [Timedance]

An effortless tension going on here, which left me feeling a bit cold after I heard it the first time but after a few plays I realised how effective it is. This is a keeper.
East India Youth - Montage Resolution (Truss Total Xtc Remix)

Some light relief, and euphoria. Not many techno artists could remix EIY so with such a light touch, it’s perfect.

Ansome - Bad Blood

Crunchion, the combination of crunch and tension. Don’t bother listening to this at home, you need to hear it in a club, preferably with Ansome playing it live with his top off.

It’s got the perfect ratio of wonk to bang, best not to combine those words.. One of the YouTube comments says “sounds like my panic attacks”. Sunil and DeFekt bounce off each other so well, you can hear clearly it in the Tinfoil series.
