8 Tracks: Of Afro Flips With Mina

Music

Following EPs from label heads Ahadadream and the mysterious SNØW, the third release on More Time Records has just touched down, and it's a good 'un alright. 'Make Money' is the brand new single from Mina, who's previously released on Enchufada and also hosts the Boko! Boko! party/Radar show with Tash LC and DJ Chin.

Backed by a remix from SNØW and recorded earlier this year during a trip to Accra, 'Make Money' features Ghanaian MC Bryte whose track 'I Like Your Girlfriend' we recently gave a proper release to on Ransom Note Records! But then you already knew that, didn't you. We've only been banging on about how good it is for months and months. Anyway, 'Make Money' is a more than worthy follow-up, with Mina's skippy bass-heavy riddim the perfect canvas for Bryte's cheeky vocal. The perfect pairing.

For her 8 Tracks feature, Mina has chosen her Top 8 afro flips – techno purists better log off now as these are guaranteed party-starters, each and every one. Listen below:

Make Money is out now on More Time Records.

Bad & Boujee (Shine X Dean Afro Remix)

Not gonna lie, I personally way prefer this one to the original! It’s super fun and full of energy, the percussion is great too.

  • Bad & Boujee (Shine X Dean Afro Remix)

Not gonna lie, I personally way prefer this one to the original! It’s super fun and full of energy, the percussion is great too.

  • Bodak Yellow (Uproot Andy Remix)

Biggest track of 2017 gets this great afrotrap treatment by Uproot Andy. I’ve been playing this in all my sets recently.

  • Look Like You (Dj Tjaey Afro Remix)

Absolute classic, always gets reloads. Check out the original beat by Homeboyz called ‘Zekele’ ‘cos it’s sick too!

  • Coco (Dotorado Pro Remix)

Great Kuduro refix of one of the biggest trap songs of 2015. Dotorado has such a distinctive sound and his melodies are always super catchy.

  • Barbie Girl (Dj Estraga & Dj Lycox Remix)

Kind of ridiculous remix of a nineties cheese pop classic. People think you have lost it when the intro starts playing, but the flip is so good and gets everyone moving.

  • Fuck Up Some Commas (Breyth Angolastral Remix)

Great beat and production of a classic Future song by the Lisboa producer.

  • Thong Song (Mina Remix)

There are tonnes of great remixes of this track, but I thought it would be fun to make my own afro version to play out.

  • The Language (Stefan Vilijn & Rancido Afrodub Mix)

I’ve been playing this one in my sets for years, the beat is hard, reminds me of uk funky tracks too.
