8 Tracks: Across Time With Ian Pooley

Music

How many records have you released? Probably not as many as Ian Pooley has over the years. Born and raised in Frankfurt his sound has evolved with time as the years have progressed. During the early 90's he distanced himself from the trance esque elements within techno and house which were careering their way across Germany, through Love Parade and beyond. Instead he has always been known for a deeper, more rhythmic inspired approach and has borrowed influence from international sounds found in Southern America and the UK. This year has seen him release the Turakina EP on his own Pooledmusic as well as a number of artists paying respect to his music on a new remix EP. It seemed fitting to catch up with him now and look at his involvement in the world of music over the years. In the coming weeks he will release a new Silvershower EP which revisits the debut of his techno alias some twenty years ago He takes us through eight tracks across time…

  • Silvershower - Ice Fractions 1

In early 1996 i was really fascinated by all stuff that came out on Axis and also the new talented guys like Surgeon and Regis . I started experimenting on my own take on Techno and i finished the 2 EPs for Plus 8 really fast , i think it took me only 2 days.
It was interesting to see who bought and played the releases because my name wasn’t mentioned at all . To this day people are still surprised when they find out it’s actually me .

  • Hans Berg - Field

I started my own Techno label a year ago and i’m having a lot of fun producing and remixing tracks for the it . This EP is by my mate Hans Berg , i still play it a lot and there’s a new EP coming soon.

  • Ian Pooley- My Anthem (Robert Hood Remix)

I remember that when i suggested Robert Hood as a Remixer i was 100% sure he’d turn it down , so you can imagine how happy i was when he agreed to do it . And the result speaks for itself i think . Timeless classic …

  • A-Ha Minor Earth Major Sky (Ian Pooley Remix)

Yes i actually did a Remix for A-ha and i just had a listen to it after 12 years ….i wish i would have done an Instrumental too!

  • Ian Pooley - Untitled A

My first Solo EP in 1994 . Stil like listening to it .

  • Quiet Daze - Being Quiet

My project on Transmat . It was a dream come true when Derrick May told me he would like to release the tracks . I grew up listening to Transmat and i’ll never forget when i bought my first copy at Boy Records Frankfurt in 1989 , it was Rhythim is Rhythim – It is what it is . I drove back home on the train and listened to it minimum 30 times on the first day.

  • Ian Pooley - Loopduell (Alan Braxe Remix)

I just re-discovered this and started playing it again . Check out the Remixes too , there’s a great Alan Braxe Remix.
